I am not sure if someone already raised the question but the recent discussion around Huawei brought up my concerns using code with chinese origin. The repositories of all apps are located in China on bt.cn server.
What about possible government interference from both US or China and the threat of discontinuity of this imho very nice tool?

I have this thought too.
Also I have already some problem with few providers to install apps from chinese repository.
I think will be to have also some international repos like for example the dude at iredmail do, some years ago.

The tool is very nice, but if there is no change at all I sadly need to move away and look for something else.

Problem here, code from Russia and the development is sluggish and it was hacked before.

The problem here is very complex and not entirely free, but very safe

Up to 10 domains free of charge.
I've been using it for over 10 years, never had problems with hacks etc. but not so many functions.
Several versions per month for the server environment and few updates to the AdminPanel

In defense of VestaCP, I will say that the developer has not been developing the project for a long time.

The community has made a fork of HestiaCP, where all bugs and vulnerabilities are fixed. The project is being actively developed.

As for alternatives i got few ones and i have experience with almost all of them, so my best bet would be with CyberPanel it comes with OpenLiteSpeed webserver out of the box so less server load and faster websites, second would be ISPconfig but it is way harder to configure perfectly and third choice will be virtualmin its extensible and good.

this text is for everyone in the future, who will also have the same concerns.
aaPanel ist just perfect for me, because:

Easy to manage sites, even without the need of installing php/databases if not needed
--> so you can just create SSL certificates easy only with nginx/apache for other purposes or only simple html hosting
not to complicated; simple usage for average geek/linux user
not bloated, like cloud panel or other software which installs by default thousand of never needed stuff
it is more or less FOSS
no tracking or 3rd party scripts

BUT. I recently realized, that this software is mostly comming from china, so I'll stop using it instantly.
Of corse, aaPanel is open source. But couldn't find a security audit and I'm kinda afraid, that the software could become manipulated because of chinas "government".

So I tried almost every possible FOSS Cloud Control Software- but couldn't find any software, that meets my requirments.

CloudPanel:
(!) bloated with to much stuff in the default installation mode; much resource usage & requirments

Vestacp:
(!) no support for debian10+ or ubuntu 20.04+, wtf?

Webmin:
(!) too many configuration options; too many things you could do wrong; nothing for an average user

ZPanel:
(!) discontinued

SENTORA:
(!) only CentOS 6 & 7; only Ubuntu 12.04 & 14.04 support, wtf?!

Cockpit Project:
(!) just an overview of your server, no possibility to manage SSL certificates or websites

Virtualmin:
(!) fork or the same like webmin; too complicated ...

HestiaCP:
(!) no nice visual overview about the server perfomance; more focus on creating and managing customers

Cyberpanel:
(!) almost perfect and similar like aaPanel, but idk why tf they had to implement cloudflare javascript into the software and one external script more. not good for privacy in my opinion

Ajenti:
(!) no site management; not ssl management

Cipi:
(!) kinda ok, but also ffs why cloudflare javascript in the software?

Ehcp:
"Ehcp also sends some usage data (including running services) to developer for statistical/improvement purposes"; no possibility for denying the sending of data-usage

The reason, that you didn't delete my post with listing other control panel software is a sign of tollerating free-speech- this is very good! (And something that isn't that good in china like in other countries)

Anyway .. I can not confirm, that the repositories are really only in china and I can not study the code because I'm not a really good coder/expert and I have bad feeling if the origin of this software is china 🙁

If it would be a european or at least american software I would think maybe different- but anyway- I'm only one of a few people who have this conerns; there are still enough people who enjoy this insane control panel 🙂 so keep on going 🙂

Today we can see Europe s/w like Composer and Drupal bring Russia vs Ukraine war into their system, they put they support to NATO instead being neutral, when you access Composer or open Drupal.org you will see the banner.
NATO build more and more Army Base near Russia, also in Asia. I hope one day Composer and Drupal delete the banner and repalce with: #standforpeace 😀
