unable to login as FTP user

i successfully installed aapanel, and created the first website with ftp user account.
however i am unable to login to FTP with ftp client. - It gets past authentication and fail at directory listing with the error below.
"Timeout detected. (control connection)
Could not retrieve directory listing. Error listing directory '/'"".

make sure your ftp port is open, by default 21.
